Charles Wesley Perry, Jr., 87, of Midland, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016. A Memorial Mass will be on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Droll officiating.Charles was born on May 27, 1929 in Cotton Valley, Louisiana to Madge Griffin Perry and Charles Wesley Perry. After moving to Rodessa, Louisiana to Plackman, Louisiana and Atlanta, Texas, he settled in Texarkana, Texas. Charlie attended Texas High School in Texarkana where he played football. He graduated in 1946 and went on to Southern Methodist University on a football scholarship where he was coached by Mattie Bell and Rusty Russell. He played with several great players, including Doak Walker. Charlie played in The Cotton Bowl on January 1, 1949 as SMU was victorious over the University of Oregon. He majored in Business Administration, was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and lettered in football in 1949 and 1950. After graduation, Charlie began his career with Magnolia Petroleum, where he had worked for several summers during college. He attended summer training camp for the Dallas Texans in Kerrville, Texas but went on to work for Magnolia full time in 1951. He was active in the Naval Reserves from 1947-1963. After working many years offshore he began working in the land department for Magnolia. He met and married his wife of 60 years, Margaret Rankin Perry (Ricki) in 1955 in Dallas and they soon moved to Midland. In 1962, Charlie went to work for Ralph Lowe and in 1966 he went out on his own as an independent landman. Charlie was dedicated to providing for his family and loved working in the oil business. He was a longtime member of the Permian Basin Landmen’s Association, American Association of Petroleum Landmen, Petroleum Club, Midland Country Club, and St. Ann’s Catholic Church.Charlie is survived by his wife, Ricki, sons Wes Perry and his wife Roni, Sam Perry and his wife Tracey, daughters Wende Perry, Page Bezner and her husband Chris, Mae-dee Jones and her husband Sport as well as 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.Honorary pallbearers are Joe Liberty, Mike Ketter, Glen Ellis, Walt Laufer, Scot Northern, Morris Willams, Don Dycus and Dizon Ramirez.The family would like to thank Dr. Ganta for the wonderful care given.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Charles Perry to Midland Memorial Hospital, 400 Rosalind Redfern Grover Parkway, Midland, Texas 79701; Midland College, 3600 N.
