Charles A. Weeg, 91, of Big Spring, died on Monday, June 10, 2002, in the Texas State Veteran's home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Reagan, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park. He was born to Mr. and Mrs. Anton Frank Weeg on November 8, 1910, in Big Spring. They were born in Bavaria, Germany, and were issued the first marriage license in Howard County. Charles attended St. Thomas Catholic School for several years. He came from a family of one sister, Louise, and three brothers, William J. Weeg, Frank Weeg, and Harry Weeg. Charles was the only direct survivor of the family. He graduated from Big Spring High School in 1930 and was valedictorian of his class. After completing high school, he enrolled in the University of Texas and graduated in 1933 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. Following graduation he made a career in Hospital Administration. He took over the Administration of the Big Spring Hospital Corporation, the name of which later changed to Hall Bennett Memorial Hospital in honor of Dr. G.T. Hall and Dr. M.H. Bennett, two early time doctors who practiced in Big Spring for many years. He retired on December 31, 1987 after 36 years of service. On August 26, 1946, he married Reta Debenport of Big Spring. Reta taught at Big Spring High School for many years. She preceded him in death on January 12, 1996 after they had enjoyed a marriage of 50 years. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. During his younger active years, he was very active in the Big Spring Rotary Club, having served as director of the club service for several years and as president of the Texas Association of Hospital Accountants for one year. He served in WWII and was a sergeant attached to the 326th Infantry Division as part of the Medical Administrator Corps. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for bravery and meritorious service. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Vera Williamson, of Ft. Worth; a niece, Frances Weeg, of Dallas; a nephew, Harry Weeg, Jr., of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; and many friends and associates. Pallbearers will be Edwin Vela, Dan Wilkins, Jerry Worthy, and Bob Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Cook and R.H. Weaver.
