Charles Webb “Pop” Farish, 97, passed away peacefully at his home on September 7, 2026, surrounded by the family he so dearly loved.
Webb was born on February 28, 1929, in Noxapater, Mississippi, to Earl Johnson Farish, affectionately known as “Big Pop,” and Willie Lenora Farish, lovingly known as “Big Mama.” He grew up in Waynesboro, Mississippi, alongside his sisters, Nita Hyde and Mary Sigler.
A natural athlete, Webb grew up playing just about every sport he could. His talent on the football field earned him a full scholarship to the University of Southern Mississippi, where he later had the honor of being inducted into the university’s Football Hall of Fame. He graduated from Southern Mississippi with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education.
Webb met the love of his life, Annie Lou McRae, in Waynesboro, Mississippi, and married his hometown sweetheart in 1951. Together, Lou and Webb built a life rooted in love, family, friendship, and faith. They were active members of First Baptist Church, and their deep faith guided them throughout their lives.
Webb began his career in education, teaching science and ultimately becoming head football coach and athletic director at Greenwood High School in Greenwood, Mississippi. In 1955, a new opportunity changed the course of his professional life when he was recruited into the oil and gas business and joined Tretolite Chemical Company. Beginning as a field salesman, Webb worked his way through the company and ultimately became its president, a position that took Webb and his family to St. Louis, Missouri. They loved their years in St. Louis and became devoted St. Louis Cardinals baseball fans, faithfully attending games.
After retiring early, Webb returned to Midland, Texas, but retirement did little to slow him down. He continued a remarkable 54-year partnership with his longtime friend and business partner, Ernest Angelo. Built on friendship, trust, and a handshake, their Discovery Exploration partnership continues through both families to this day.
Webb loved hunting, fishing, and golf. Never one to shy away from a challenge, he set a personal goal of shooting his age on the golf course—and accomplished it every year from age 79 through 92.
As much as Webb enjoyed sports himself, nothing brought him greater joy than following the sports, activities, and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He was their faithful fan, always interested, always encouraging, and always proud.
Webb was blessed with many gifts, but one known and loved by everyone who knew him was his gift of gab. He was a wonderful storyteller, and once he had a story to tell, there was little chance of getting away before hearing the ending. More than a few friends and family members found themselves firmly held by the arm until Pop had finished telling his tale. It was simply part of his charm—and one of the countless things that made him unforgettable.
Pop fiercely loved his family, extended family, and friends. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, and the love he poured into those around him will remain his greatest legacy.
He is survived by his children, Anthony Webb Farish and his wife, Barb; Ronnie Farish and his wife, Penny; and Terri Farish Brigham and her husband, David.
He was a proud grandfather to Dillon Johnson Farish and his wife, Caroline; Davis Russell Farish and his wife, Linnea; Madeline McRae Gwyn and her husband, Michael; William Webb Farish; Annie Lynn Brigham; Lauren Brigham Loeffler and her husband, Kyle; Cody Webb Brigham; and Luke Madison Brigham.
His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Ryder Webb Farish, Miles William Farish, Virginia Grace “Gigi” Farish, Zella Renae Farish, Hulen Hollis Farish, Amelia McRae Gwyn, Annie Blair Gwyn, Collins Clare Loeffler, and Luke Webb Loeffler.
The Farish family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Webb’s devoted longtime caregivers, Mary Walker, Yecenia Sigala, Diane Marquez, Elisa Ramirez, and Hope Waters, as well as Hospice of Midland, for the kindness, compassion, and loving care they gave him.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 15, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating Webb’s life will be held Wednesday, September 16, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Webb lived 97 extraordinary years—a life filled with faith, family, friendship, hard work, sports, laughter, and more than a few good stories. Those fortunate enough to have known him will remember not simply what he accomplished, but how deeply he loved, how faithfully he lived, and how much joy he found in the people around him.
And if Pop had one more story to tell, he would probably still have you by the arm.
