Charles Ray Polk, 85, died Tuesday afternoon July 25, 2017 in Midland. We rejoice in his abundant life and abiding faith in Jesus Christ.Born in Wingate, Texas on October 16, 1931, Charlie was baptized in a creek during his humble, but happy childhood. He grew up in the West Texas area and graduated from Tahoka High School. After high school, Charlie worked in the funeral and floral business, and then began his life-long career in sales. With his gregarious personality, he could sell anything! He retired from NuTone Corporation in 1996.Always an active church member, he served as a Deacon and on various committees, and he volunteered with Breaking Bread Soup Kitchen. He and his wife Marilyn helped start the Angels in Aprons food ministry in which they served for over a decade at FPC. An avid golfer, Charlie enjoyed traveling to play courses around the country. He also loved playing all games, especially winning at Gin Rummy.He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn. She and Charlie just celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary this month. He was loved by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Dale DeBerry; Denise and Doug Barry; and Larissa and John Cox; and his bonus daughter and her husband, Kim and Steve Kempton and bonus son and his wife, Stephen and Deborah Hooper. He was also proud of his 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Charlie loved being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. One of his greatest joys was family gatherings.Charlie’s deep love for God’s word was evident. He was known for sharing a “God loves you!” to everyone he met. His smile was contagious and his stories hilarious. Charlie was one of a kind.A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, July 28, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, 800 West Texas Ave, Midland.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Midland, Texas.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
