Charles Franklin Scott

Midland, Charles Franklin Thomas Scott, 91, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014 at Manor Park of Midland. Charles was born Novembers 26, 1922 in Ladonia, TX to Herschel Clyde Scott and Willie Mae Campbell. He had an older brother William Clyde Scott. He was valedictorian of his high school and graduated from the University of Texas Austin with honors. Charles was a United States Army veteran of World War II serving as a Sergeant in the 337th Air Service Group stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After the war he took a job with Atlantic Refining Company in Longview, TX. Charles was then transferred to Midland and met Bobbie Wood. They were married October 18, 1952 in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church Midland. Charles and Bobbie have two children, Eleanor and Tommy. They lived in Midland for the remainder of his life. Charles, “Frank”, as he was called by Bobbie, shared a rich and full life together. His wife and family were his life. He was an outstanding father and husband. In addition to working, he always had time for his children and their activities. He and Tommy were in Boy Scouts together, supporting him in achieving his Eagle Scout. Charles was a little league baseball coach for his son’s team, the Angels. He played football in high school and college. As a kicker, he was known as “Deadly Toe Scott.” He loved football, whether he played with his children outdoors or watched it on television. Charles and Bobbie enjoyed camping with their family. They would travel in Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico. Eventually, they would set their trailer in a camp in Cloudcroft, NM. They would spend every summer there where they made life long friends. Their children and grandchildren spent many summers together sleeping on the fold out table, eating Charles’s “one of a kind” pancakes, feeding the hummingbirds, and making great memories. Charles and Bobbie did everything together. He was kind, thoughtful, gentle, fixed breakfast for the family every morning. He did anything that needed to be done whenever it needed to be done. He was a Godly man and a great example for a daughter and son to observe how a relationship should be between a husband and wife. Charles was fiercely loyal, dependable, and was respected by all who knew him. He and Bobbie had a framing business and wood working business they called “Keepsake Toys”. In their shop he would spend hours cutting and sanding small wooden toys until they were works of art. They participated in numerous craft shows in Texas. There will never be another Charles Franklin Thomas Scott. We will love and miss him so very much. He is preceded in death by his parents Herschel Clyde and Willie Mae Scott, and his brother William Clyde Scott. Charles is survived by his wife, Bobbie Scott of Midland, TX, daughter Eleanor Scott Leeper and husband Stan of Andrews, TX, son Tommy Scott and wife Jan of Shreveport, LA, grandchildren Shawn Leeper Johnston and husband Jeffrey of Midland, Erin Leeper and wife Jana of Plano, TX, Rachel Scott Florence and husband Nick of Waco, TX, Joshua Scott of Shreveport, LA, and 3 great grandchildren Kayleigh, Ethan, and Joel Johnston of Midland. A viewing for friends and family is scheduled for Monday, May 26. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland, TX.The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all who made his life so wonderful.
