Cecil Hobbs, 91, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, November 9, 2014. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served his country in the US Army, a devout Christian that belonged to First Baptist Church and a member of the Midland community since 1968.Cecil was born on August 16, 1923, in Abilene, Texas, to Oscar and Doxie (Carr) Hobbs. He worked as a draftsman for Texaco before retiring. Cecil was a very active volunteer at the Friends That Care Program sponsored by Hospice of Midland. In 1948, Cecil married his first wife, Dolle Rosser in Abilene, Texas. Dolle passed away on June 19, 1989. On November 15, 1997, he married his second wife, Thelma Upton in Midland, Texas. Cecil was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.Cecil is survived by his wife, Thelma Hobbs of Midland; his daughter-in-law, Barbara Hobbs of Roswell, New Mexico; his daughter, Beverly Carter and her husband, Garland of Abilene; his son, John Hobbs and his wife, Hailey of Carrollton; his daughter, Celia Cox and her husband, Ricky of Leander; 15 grandchildren, Kyla, Madux, Tamara, Cougan and Broderick Hobbs; Allison, Timothy and Meredith Carter; Megan, Seth, Benjamin and Katie Hobbs; Ross, Kellye and Todd Cox; 10 great grandchildren and numerous friends all of whom loved and will miss him dearly.Cecil was preceded by his parents; his first wife, Dolle Hobbs; his son, Randy Hobbs; his grandson, Kedrick Hobbs and his brother, James Hobbs.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Nalley-Pickle and Welch Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Rev. Robert Kirk will be the celebrant. The pallbearers will be members from both the Partners Class at First Baptist Church and the Friends That Care Program at Hospice of Midland.The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers that did such a wonderful job of looking after Cecil; Hospice of Midland, Serenity House and Dr. Gregory Bartha.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in Cecil’s name to Hospice of Midland PO Box 2621 Midland, TX 79702 or to First Baptist Church of Midland 2104 W. Louisiana Ave. Midland, TX 79Funeral arrangements are under the care of Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home and Crematory of Midland.,
