Cecil H. Drake, 73, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in Big Spring. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, March 21, 2003, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Wanda Hill, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Coahoma, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. He was born on December 30, 1929 in Big Spring, Texas and married Mona Moad on October 12, 1950 in Big Spring, Texas. A lifetime resident, Cecil was the son of H. D. and Emma Drake. He began working for Cosden Refinery on September 20, 1955, retiring on December 31, 1984. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed drinking coffee with friends and sharing his computer time with his cousin, J. D. Robertson. Cecil joined the United States Army in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1949. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Coahoma since 1965, he was very active and loved his church family. Survivors include his wife, Mona Drake of Big Spring; daughter, Lucretia Ashley and husband, Shelton, of Austin; sons, Ricky Drake and wife, Katherine, of Porter, and Roy Drake and wife, Toni, of Midland; daughter, Cecilia Wright and husband, Jim, of San Angelo; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren and his mother-in-law, Goldye Moad of Big Spring. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John William Drake and a sister, Francis McCracken. Pallbearers will be Jarrell Barbee, Bill Bates, Neil Squires, Don McKinney, David Elmore and Hershel Mathis. Honorary pallbearers will be the Wesley Sunday School Class.
