My deepest sympathies to the family of Carroll Thomas for the loss of your loved one. When I went to work at the City of Midland, Carroll was just starting his term as Mayor. Since I was in the City Secretary’s Office, I was involved in keeping records for the City Council. One amusing story I will share was on the day Carroll was to be sworn in as Mayor. Bill Clanton, City Secretary, and I had prepared an extensive ceremony for the swearing in. Usually, the Council Chambers we’re partially full, but on this day the Chambers were full of people (some City employees) and also the foyer was full and people were spilling out the doors to the outside. When Carroll and the other Council members came into the foyer on their way to the Chambers, the look on his face was priceless. He asked me what’s going on? I told him the people were there to witness his swearing in as Mayor. He was amazed and could not believe that many people would attend. Carrolll was always kind and friendly and very easy to work with. He had to sign all documents from each meeting, so I usually prepared those for him. He was such a nice person and always had a smile on his face. He will be missed.

Dear bereaved family Ernie informed me of Carroll's passing. My sincere condolences. I met Carroll last summer during a visit to the Estes YMCA. We shared just one afternoon together, brief and lasting. His calm demeanor, coupled with a keen, interested mind, impressed me. I wish you comfort in the memories of such happy moments with a extraordinary man. Silent greetings Erwina
