With deep love and profound gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carrie Jo Miller who went home to be with her Lord on June 15, 2025, surrounded by the family she cherished so dearly.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, June 30th, at 10:00am at Mid-Cities Community Church in Midland, TX. Interment will be the following day at 11:00am at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Liberty Hill, TX.
Carrie Jo was born on January 4, 1932, in Cleburne, TX to David and Bertie Lee Mitchell. She grew up working in her father’s grocery stores in Wortham, Belton, and Austin. She graduated from Austin High School in 1949. She attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi, and completed her BA in Sociology and Religious Education in just three years.
Upon graduation Carrie Jo began her career at the Texas Education Agency. She also spent several years employed by Texas A&M University in many departments, including executive secretary to university president, Major General James Earl Rudder. After moving to Midland, Carrie Jo was employed by Permian Basin Community Centers for MHMR and finally at Mid-Cities Community Church where she served until retirement at the age of 70.
Throughout her life, Carrie Jo devoted herself to service, first at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and later at Mid-Cities Community Church, and all the people God placed in her path. Whether through leading Bible studies, organizing meals for church events as well as those in need, or simply offering a listening ear and kind smile, she gave selflessly and without hesitation. Her quiet strength and deep wisdom were comforting to many, and her faith remained steadfast throughout every season.
But perhaps her greatest joy came from her family. She was a devoted mother, a nurturing grandmother, and a loving great-grandmother. Her home was always open and her table always full. She prayed faithfully for each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren by name, and her words of encouragement and guidance will echo in their hearts forever.
Carrie Jo is survived by her children: Diane (Mark) Ochs and Mary (Bryan) Reeves, 8 grandchildren: Lauren (Marty) Smith, Charissa Reeves, Wes (Breanne) Reeves, Daniel (Abby) Ochs, Rachel Ochs Tripp, Travis (Kimberly) Reeves, Allison (Chad) Smith and David (Lauren) Ochs and 18 great-grandchildren, nephew David Keeling and niece Emily Albrecht along with many extended family members and dear friends who were deeply impacted by her love and faith.
Carrie Jo is preceded in death by her parents, David and Bertie Lee Mitchell, her sister Molly Lou Keeling and great-granddaughter Zella Monroe Tripp.
Carrie Jo lived a life marked by unwavering faith, compassion, and joyful service. Her love for her Heavenly Father shone through every word she spoke and every life she touched. Her spiritual legacy is a gift that continues to bless generations—a foundation of faith, hope, and love that will endure long beyond her years. We give thanks for the gift of her life, for the strength of her faith, and for the legacy she leaves in all of us. Until we meet again, we hold fast to the promise that she is now in the presence of her Savior, whom she served so faithfully.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
