Carolyn Ann Pate Poer died on February 23, 2016. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 3:00 PM at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity.She was born in Pecos, Texas, the daughter of Ben and Lura Pate.She graduated from Pecos High School and attended Hardin Simmons University. She graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Christian University. She completed graduate studies from Texas Tech University and Sul Ross University.In 1957 she married Robert Emmett Poer, her childhood sweetheart from 1st grade. They were married 59 years.Carolyn taught in Breckenridge, TX and in Dallas where she became director of children’s work at Central Christian Church. She developed and implemented Church curriculum for Brite Seminary at TCU. After moving to Midland in 1969 she taught for MISD until her retirement in 2008.Teaching was her gift. She used that gift to motivate each child to achieve his or her potential. She left no child behind and will always be remembered for being the teacher who cared for and loved her students.She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and served as president of the Epsilon Eta Chapter. She served on the Midland Symphony Guild, worked with the United Way Campaign, Girl Scout organizations and cancer research campaigns. She was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity where she was a Sunday school teacher, and a member or the Altar Guild.Carolyn’s greatest pride was being with her 6 grandchildren with whom she created a classroom environment; making up rhymes, writing stories, creating art projects, playing games, singing songs and assisted with many science fair projects.She is survived by her husband, Robert Poer; her children, Lisa Drummond of Durham, NC; Beth Clark and her husband, Greg of Midland; and Evan Poer of Trophy Club; her grandchildren, Corbin Doffer, Cortney Morgan and her husband, Trentin, Claire Doffer, Sam Poer, Kaytlyn Drummond and Polley Poer and her first great grandchild Weston Morgan.Our family would like to thank Dr. David Deshan and his nurse Kim, her wise doctor of many years, Dr. Manny Mangat and his caring staff at Texas Oncology for their professional guidance and continuous encouragement through this journey. And last, Midland Memorial Hospital Oncology wing and ICU staff for their gentle and caring spirit, professionalism and respect during her final hours.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to The Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity Endowment Fund, 1412 West Illinois Ave., Midland, TX, 79701; or Texas Children’s Hospital, 6621 Fannin St., Houston, TX, 77030.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
