Carol Diane King-Markham, 75, of Pecos, passed away on May 17, 2019, in Odessa, TX. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 10 a.m. MDT at Prairie Haven Memorial Park Chapel, 1900 E. Stanolind Rd., Hobbs, NM, 88240.Carol was born on September 27, 1943, in Peacock, TX, to Mary Pauline (\Polly\) Reynolds King and John R. King, Jr.In 1955, her father's job transferred the family to Eunice, NM, where Carol spent the rest of her school years. When she was 16 years old, she lost her mother. After that Carol raised her little brother, Jerry, who was five years younger.Carol moved to Pecos in 1974 where she spent the majority of her adult life. She was the Chief Appraiser of Reeves County for 30 years and retired in 2008. Soon after retiring, she became ill. Then in 2011, she lost her son, Lucas (\Luke\) Doyle Markham. She also lost a part of herself when this happened, and her health steadily declined thereafter.Carol had a huge benevolent heart and regularly supported efforts that help those less fortunate or without a voice. Two of her passions were saving animals and supporting education opportunities for Native American children, which stemmed from her love of animals and pride in her Choctaw Indian ancestry. But her greatest passion was her role as a mother. She was an extremely loving, devoted, doting mother who worshipped her children. They were blessings to her as she was to them. She is survived by her daughter, Mechelle Markham Testa, and husband, Danny, of The Colony, TX; and her grand-daughters, Cheyenne Markham and Hailey Grandi, both of Midland, TX.She is preceded in death by her mother, Polly King; her father, John King; her brother, Jerry King; and her son, Lucas Markham. In support of Carol's love and compassion for animals, in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to:Animal Humane New Mexico615 Virginia St. SEAlbuquerque, NM 87108Or online at: animalhumanenm.orgAs per her wishes, ashes of Carol's son, Lucas, will be laid to rest with her ashes. Lucas was born August 12, 1977, in Pecos, TX, and passed away July 17, 2011, in Midland, TX. They were both deeply loved by all who knew them and are painfully missed.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
