Carlynn Harris, 81, of Midland, died on Thursday, March 13, 2008, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Greenwood Baptist Church with Rev. Waymon Swopes and Rev. John Bill Hedricks officiating. Interment will follow at Garden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, March 14, 2008 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home, Midland, Texas. She was born on February 16, 1927 in Big Spring, Texas to Charles and Bertha Rae Cox. She was a longtime member of the Garden City Methodist Church and had been attending the Greenwood Baptist Church for the past six years. She is a former Midland rodeo sponsor and was a rider during the war. She graduated from high school in Garden City. She attended Texas Tech University where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Spanish and a Master's degree in Special Education. After graduation, she taught in Seymour, Stanton and Big Lake, where she retired. After retirement, she moved to the family ranch in Glasscock County. She served eight years as Republican Co-Chairman in Glasscock County and was a member of the Midland County Republican Women. She worked on numerous Republican campaigns. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She loved and cared deeply for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and ex-husband, Hugh 'Buck' Wayland Harris. Survivors include two sons; Constable Charles 'Choc' Harris and wife Betty of Midland, Clay Harris and wife Rena of Midland; four grandchildren, Diedra Hale and husband Brad of Westbrook, Christina Harris of Midland, Michael Miller and wife Amy of Big Spring, JH Miller of Midland; one great grandchild, Kadence Miller of Midland.The family request memorials be made to the Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, PO Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174 or to the American Heart Association, 3205 W.
