He left his home in Jena and road a train to Big Lake, Texas, to work in the oilfield at 18. He returned in a couple of years to marry Miss Linda Nelson on December 20, 1957, sharing a life together for 61 years. They started their family in Jena and moved to Patterson, Louisiana. In 1970 they moved the family to Crane, Texas, when he began working for Tretolite. He never missed an opportunity to help those in need. He was a devout Bible scholar who kept a minimum of ten Bibles within arm’s reach of his favorite chair at all times.
