Camal Charles Dakil, 82, of Midland, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 28, 2018. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 2, 2018 at 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held Monday, July 2, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Resthaven Memorial Park.Camal was born April 24, 1936 to Blanche Marie Saied and Shakir Charles Dakil in Wellington, Texas. After his father died from a car accident when he was two years old, Camal and his mother moved in with his immigrant grandparents who came to the U.S. from Lebanon. He was raised with his uncles, who were more like his brothers and he was always surrounded by love. He also was blessed with a younger brother, George Farris Jr., who was a very important part of his life.Camal was a proud Wellington Skyrocket and participated in every sport and activity offered at his high school. He played center and quarterback for the football team, and he was also on the boxing, basketball, and tennis teams. After he graduated from Wellington High School, Camal attended the University of Texas in Austin until he transferred to West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. It was there that he met the love of his life, Nancy Lois Adcock and they spent the next 62 years together. Camal is a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and he graduated with a BA in Education and later went on to achieve his Masters Degree Plus 30. He and Nancy married young, had their children young and always remained young at heart. He started his career in education by coaching and teaching at Dumas Junior High, before moving to a counselor position at Midland High School. After a brief stint as a personnel manager for Windecker Industries, Camal joined Odessa College as a counselor and then became the founding Dean of Midland College alongside President Al Langford. Starting the college was his life’s purpose and he spent countless hours and 29 years laying the foundation for the beautiful campus it is today. Solving problems were his gift and people were his passion. He travelled West Texas, starting many college programs and recruited many students to the MC Chaparrals. After retiring, Camal went back into education as the principal of the Excel Program at Midland High School and then the director for Richard Milburn Academy. He was a wise counselor to all he met and a great listener. He treated everyone he encountered with equal respect and lit up a room with his beautiful smile and twinkling eyes. He never met a stranger.Camal was a staunch supporter and protector of everyone in his family and never said no to a request for help. He loved his wife and children and was an amazing example of a true Christian man for his five grandchildren. His influence on his family will be the legacy that he leaves behind.He served in many capacities in the community, including President of the American Heart Association, President of the Midland County Library Board, President of the Midland Teacher’s Credit Union Board, President of the Partners Sunday School Class at FUMC, Chairman of the Staff Parish Committee at FUMC, and President of Midland Downtown Rotary Club, Emmaus Community, Community Bible Study, and Wednesday Morning Prayer.He is survived by his wife, Nancy Adcock Dakil of Midland; son, David Charles Dakil of Lake Oak Creek, TX.; daughter, Susan Dakil Rowland of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren David C. Dakil (Georgia), Brittany L. Dakil, Dylan C. Dakil, Ryan S. Rowland (Heather) and Taylor C. Rowland; great grandchildren Rhett K. Rowland, Parker S. Rowland, Hunter T. Rowland, Landon C. Dakil and Olivia K. Dakil; niece Julie F. Rodriquez (Armando), nephew George Farris, III, and niece Lindsay C. Farris; great nephews Jordan Rodriguez, Nicholas Rodriguez and Ryker Rodriquez. He is preceded in death by his father Shakir Charles Dakil, mother Blanche Dakil Farris, step-father George Farris, Sr., and brother George Farris, Jr.Pallbearers will be David Charles Dakil, David C. Dakil, Ryan S. Rowland, Dylan C. Dakil, George Farris, III, Wes Huddleston, Armando Rodriquez and Jordan Farris. Honorary pallbearers will be Partners Sunday School Class at FUMC.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to First United Methodist Church, AMOS, or the American Heart Association.
