Calvin \Bud\ Kirk Hughes, 80, of Knott, Texas went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 6, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 14th and Main Church of Christ, Big Spring with Larry Marshall officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, July 8, 2016 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.Calvin was born October 13, 1935 to Alvie and Audie Hughes in Martin County. He married his high school sweetheart, Juanita Joe Sample, on December 17, 1952. Over 63 years, Bud and Joe raised two children; a son, Ricky Hughes and wife, Leah of Big Spring, and a daughter, Connie Zant and husband, David of Ackerly. They had four grandchildren, Wes Hughes, Kara Crenshaw, Hollie Epperson, and Cal Zant. He was blessed with nine great-grandchildren, Colten, Cy, Joey, Hannah, Hattie, Lila, Brock, Hudson, and Londyn. \Grandad\, as he was called by his family, was a member of the Knott Church of Christ, and had given his life to Jesus Christ. He was a devoted family man. He led and loved us well, and showed how to live the Christian life by example. Calvin farmed, raising dry-land cotton for 54 years, and would tell you, \He had 4 or 5 good crops\. He served nine years on the Sands CISD school board. He was manager of Guitar Gins for many seasons, and proudly served as treasurer for 50+ years for Knott Church of Christ. Calvin loved going to Lake Mathis with his fishing buddies, and winning domino championships.He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvie Hughes and Audie Hatten; one sister, Jean King; and a brother, Nathan Hughes.His stories, love, and laughter will be missed but never forgotten.The family suggests memorials to Foster Home for Children, P.
