CALVIN CLAN HANCOCKMIDLAND – Calvin Clan Hancock, 78, died peacefully at home September 28, 2014, surrounded by his family. Calvin was born November 19, 1935, in Post, Texas, to Clan and Jewel Hancock.Calvin, a 1953 Midland High School graduate, earned his Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree from Hardin Simmons University in 1957 and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1961. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Society of CPA’s.After graduation, he went to work for the Western Company where he quickly became a Senior Accountant. He then went to work for Fritz Breckinridge at Breckinridge and Williams. In 1961, he partnered with Fritz to form Breckinridge and Hancock. They bought practices in Clovis and Tucumcari, N.M., and Calvin moved his family there.He later returned to West Texas and took an interest in Roundhouse Electric with John “Buzz” Crowley. He next accepted a Tax Manager position at Wagner & Brown Ltd. It was there that he met Ken Arnold, and the two formed Arnold Hancock and Company in 1981. Calvin and Ken remained partners and lifelong friends.He was a proud member of the National Rifle Association. He served for many years as Treasurer of the Midland High Ex-Student Association and Treasurer of Hi-Sky Emmaus.Calvin was President of the Midland Jaycee’s from 1969-1970 and was Vice President of the Texas Jaycees. He was listed in the 1971 Edition of “Personalities of the South.” He received the “Outstanding Service Quarterman Award” in June 1966 from the Midland Jaycees and the “Outstanding Service as Program Chairman Award” from Rotary International in 1973.He was ordained as a Deacon in 1957 at Trinity Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church of Midland. He had a beautiful baritone voice – he cherished singing in the choir and singing solos. Calvin loved his crossword puzzles and did them daily – in ink! He especially loved Westerns and was the family expert on Gunsmoke and Marshal Matt Dillon. He was a faithful supporter of the Midland High Bulldogs, Hardin Simmons Cowboys and his beloved Dallas Cowboys.Calvin had a wonderful sense of humor and a razor-sharp wit. He also had an incredible work ethic, and he prided himself on always being prompt and prepared. The thing that he took the most pride in though, was his beautiful family.Calvin is survived by his wife of 23 years, Jane Johnson Hancock. He is also survived by his children, Judy Mitchell and husband Royce, Terry Hancock and wife Carren, Gregory Hancock and husband Eddie Winstead, Elizabeth Ryan and husband James, Christian Hancock, Cal Neatherlin and wife Kim, and Jeni Neatherlin; grandchildren, Melissa Lofton and husband Jeff Zearfoss, Ben Howard and wife Katey, Will Hancock and wife Courtney, Haley Domian, Chandler Hancock, Joshua Ryan, Nathan Ryan, Faith Ryan, Shianne Elliott, Michael Elliott, Shelby Neatherlin, Karsen Neatherlin, Seth Neatherlin, Trinity Neatherlin, Jeremiah Mitchell and Megan Mitchell; great-grandchildren Hickson Howard, Hadley Howard, Blake Zearfoss, Morganne Hancock, Cohlee Chatham; brother Charles Hancock and extended family Steven Stuteville, Kevin Stuteville and Paula Harrold. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Maureen Elliott.Honorary Pallbearers will be Ken Arnold, Drue Thomas, Spencer Blocker, Rob Bomar, Charlie Harris, Charlie Linebarger, Buzzy White, Rabe Rodella and Rowan Rodella.Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Terry Hancock officiating. To help us honor Calvin’s hatred of ties, we respectfully request that you leave yours at home for his service.
