He served from February of 1968 to February of 1970. He was Soldier of the Month in Vietnam in June of 1969. He was also awarded the Good Conduct Medal, in February of 1970. Calvin was a true enterpriser. He was a jack of all trades; he started a multitude of businesses working as a truck driver, horse trainer and racer, car salesman, wholesale salesman, construction, you name it. He loved change and had big ideas as he was a dreamer and a believer in the American dream. Calvin, “Pops”, was a vibrant, larger than life man. He was intelligent and had a persona that welcomed everyone with his bright smile. He had a zest for life and you can’t forget his big belly laugh. He didn’t know a stranger and lit up any room he entered. He came from a very large family and was always doing his part to help in hard times. He was a protector and provider for all of his family, as well as his country. He loved his family, horse racing, golf, the Dallas Cowboys, and was undoubtedly a super-fan of the Midland High Bulldogs. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing his opinion and felt obligated to share that opinion with the umpires. As one of his nephews said, “If you didn’t love Calvin Neatherlin, you didn’t love anyone.” That is the impact that Calvin left on everyone. You were better off for having known him. Calvin is survived by his son, Cal Neatherlin Jr. and his wife, Kim Neatherlin of San Antonio; daughter, Jeni Neatherlin of Midland; grandchildren, Shianne Elliott, Shelby Neatherlin, Michael Elliott, Karsen Neatherlin, Christian Hancock, Seth Neatherlin and Trinity Neatherlin.
