Graveside funeral services for Callie Jo Mason, 91, of Ruston, Louisiana, formerly of Big Spring, will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 22, 2004 at Trinity Memorial Park with Dr. Kenneth Patrick and Mike Couch, officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Thursday at the funeral home.Mrs. Mason died April 17, 2004 in Ruston, Louisiana. She was born October 13, 1912 in Krum, Texas, outside of Denton, Texas. Her family moved to Midland in the late 1920's. She married Jimmie Lee Mason on March 15, 1934 and lived in Big Spring, where she raised her family and worked until 1985. She was a lifetime member of the PTA, served as one of the first Big Spring City Hostess from 1948 to 1950, worked as a Rio Grande Insurance Agent from 1957 to 1960, as a dental assistant from 1961 to 1963, and retired in 1982 at the age of 70 as the receptionist for the Big Spring State Hospital Outpatient Clinic, after 10 years of service.She was an active member of Phi Sigma Alpha Soroity, serving six terms as Treasurer, and was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Big Spring, where she taught Sunday School and served as assistant librarian with Johnnie Winham. She had lived in Ruston, Louisiana with her daughter, Lynda and her husband, Charles Mills for the last 10 years.Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Lee Mason, on November 22, 1969; an infant daughter, Helen; and a granddaughter, DeAnne Mason Kindred. Survivors include a son, Preston Mason and wife, Phyllis, of Kingsland; a daughter, Lynda Mills and husband, Charles, of Ruston, Louisiana; a step-son, Jimmie Lee Mason and wife, Wanda, of Lubbock; grandchildren, Curtis Mason of Missouri City, Texas, Cindy Mills Wilday, Drake and Darryl Mills all of Ruston, Louisiana, Jim Mason, Kristi Mason Killion, and Greg Mason all of Lubbock; and 13 great-grandchildren.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
