Bob Cox, 79, of Stanton, Texas, died on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Stanton with Rev. David Harp, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.Bob was born on June 11, 1930 in Glasscock County, Texas to Sam W. and Thelma Berry Cox. He moved with his family to Martin County in 1938 and graduated from Courtney High School in 1947. He joined the United States Army in 1951 and served in the 1st Calvary in the Korean Conflict. He married the love of his life, Jo Jon Hall on July 4, 1953 in Stanton and she preceded him in death on December 14, 1990. He farmed and ranched in Martin County until his death.Bob had served as a Mustang Soil and Water Conservation District Director and had served as a director of CapRock Co-op for 18 years and as president for 12 years. He was a member of the Texas Hereford Association, and was an advisor to the Texas Junior Hereford Association. Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church of Stanton, where he served on the Board of Trustees. He supported 4-H and FFA and loved helping his grandkids raise their livestock for stock shows. He was a 4-H Adult Leader and was awarded the 4-H Silver Spur Award.Survivors include two sons, Morgan Cox of Tarzan and Robert Cox and wife, Dixie of Humble; one daughter, Jonama Myrick and husband, John of Stanton; and four grandchildren, Cameron Cox and Destiny Cox both of Humble and Sterling Allen and Jo Beth Myrick both of Stanton. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gordon Cox. The family suggests memorials be made to the Martin County Museum, P.O.
