On August 24, 2015, we lost a wonderful dad, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. BB was a throwback to an earlier time … an honorable man and a true gentleman who loved people and never met a stranger. Through the 60+ years that he attended, coached, and served at Eastern New Mexico University, he bled green & silver! He also coached and mentored many young men who are now coaching throughout NM, TX and the rest of the U.S. He received numerous awards from ENMU, the States of New Mexico and Texas, and at the national level. Rarely could he travel anywhere in the country without being recognized by someone! Everyone knew and loved BB – his name to friends and family alike. We will miss him greatly and strive to honor his legacy.The love of BB’s life was Jimmie Fern. The two met while they attended ENMU, married in 1951 and stayed together until she died in 2009. BB is survived by four children, their spouses, 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one more due in November.There will be a celebration of his life held at a future date in Portales.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carl Richardson and B.B. Lees Scholarship Fund to support full-time “walk-on” student athletes on the ENMU football team.
