Billy Lee Smith, 82, of Midland, went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 6, 2013. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm-8:00pm, Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 10, 2013 at Resthaven North Cemetery with Rev. Gary Douglas, officiating. Billy was born October 25, 1930 in Nocona, TX to Audie and Zele Smith. He married Rosalee Ellen Lynn on January 13, 1951 in Wichita Falls, TX. They moved to Midland, TX in 1964.Billy was employed by General Tire and Rubber Company, where he worked as an A mechanic, a machinist, and a maintenance supervisor. He retired in 1995. He served with the National Guard. Billy was the vice president of General Federal Credit Union for several years.His hobbies included being a licensed ham operator, guitar player, working on motors and pumps, being a part of Boy Scouts of America, maintenance work at the church, fishing, and camping with his family.Survivors include wife, Rosalee Smith of Midland; five children, Nancy Lee Smith Dean and life partner Zane Wallace, David Wayne Smith and wife Sheri Seay Smith, Debra Gayle Smith Mansell and husband Mark Mansell, Timothy Allen Smith and wife Sandy Smith, and Roger Dale Smith; grandchildren, Kenneth Wayne Barnett and wife Amber, Brenda and Devin Gilbert, Rachael Nichols, Danial Wiles, Dustin and Kesha Smith, Cameron and Kristina Smith, Luke Mansell, Cheyenne Mansell, Jacob and Caren Smith, Brittney Smith, Joshua Smith, Brooke Smith, Raini and Andrew Ramirez, Delaney Smith and Wesley Smith; and twenty three great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister. The family suggests memorials be made to Home Hospice, 901 W Missouri, Midland, TX 79701 or to the Boy Scouts of America.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
