Billie Jean Douglas was born in Big Spring, Texas on September 4, 1933. She and her younger brother, Bobby were raised on a farm near Stanton by their parents, Lewis and Gladys Duke Carlile. She graduated from Stanton High School where she was a drum majorette and won numerous awards in 4-H dress reviews. Billie loved playing the piano and singing in choir. She married Earl E. (Gene) Douglas on December 25, 1953, in her parents’ home in Stanton before he went to Army basic training. She was a secretary and bookkeeper while there and later continued to work while he got his accounting degree from the University of Houston. They had three sons and a daughter while living in Midland, Amarillo, Memphis, Joplin, Dallas, and finally, back in Stanton. Billie worked as a bookkeeper for the Cave-Bowlin John Deere Implement in Stanton.
After Gene retired, she loved spending time at their home in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Billie spent countless hours working on counted cross stitch pictures, various remodeling projects, cooking for family and friends as well as caring for her hummingbirds on their deck. She loved doing yard work and gardening at their home in Stanton too. They eventually moved to Midland where she continued to care for her plants and flowers. She was a member of Golf Course Road Church of Christ and loved attending until her health began to fail. Then she watched church online every Sunday that she was able to.
Billie is survived by her children, Alan Douglas (Jo) of Midland, Gary Douglas (Tonya) of Cross Plains, Greg Douglas (Cindy) of Lubbock, and Patty Douglas of San Angelo, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Bobby Carlile of Boerne, Texas, and his family.
