Billie Eggleston, 83, of Midland, died on Thursday, September 4, 2008, at VA Medical Center in Big Spring. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 8, 2008 at Kelview Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Berry and Rev. Bill Skaggs, officiating. Interment will follow at 4:00 PM at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Big Spring. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 7 from 4:00 PM 5:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory.He was born January 10, 1925 to Bertha and Claude Eggleston.After the service he joined the National Guard where he served as a 2nd Chief Warrant Officer. He was instrumental in obtaining a new building for the National Guard in Big Spring. After relinquishing his duties in the Guard, he went into the cattle business. He was an independent cattle buyer until the late 1990's when he retired due to poor health. He was a deacon at Trinity Baptist Church when he resided in Big Spring.He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary McKee Eggleston; three children, Kathryn Martin and her husband Jerry of Midland, Mike Eggleston and his wife Kathie of Dunn, Don Eggleston and his wife Carol of Midland; grandchildren, Rebecca and Joe Bob Ransom of Midland, Angela and Dr. Mario Gross of Midland, Scott Hull of Dallas, Evan and Christy Eggleston of Big Spring, Brandon Eggleston and wife of Andrews, Wesley Eggleston of Midland, and Dustin Eggleston of Andrews; six great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Caroline and Abigayle Ransom, Tyler and John-Michael Eggleston and Sophie Gross; sisters, Beatrice Hardin of Odessa and Faye Walker of Big Spring; several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at the VA Hospital in Big Spring.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory of Midland.
