Sunday, July 20, 2008 Bill Turner entered into eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church, 3000 W. Golf Course in Midland with Pastor Robert Pase officiating. Billy Marion Turner was born March 20, 1925 on a farm near Fluvanna, Texas. He was fourth of the seven sons born to Guy and Ida Wolff Turner. In 1943, upon completion of High School, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Rushmore and was involved in several invasions of South Pacific islands. Four and a half years later, he was discharged from the Navy in Seattle, Washington. There he met and married Velva Beach and they made their home in Seattle.Bill went to work for the University of Washington, first as an electrician and later as supervisor of the physical plant. He remained at the University for more than thirty-three years. His wife Velva died in 1979. Later Bill married a former classmate, Doris Barnes of Midland. They moved to Eastern Washington where they enjoyed country living on a small farm for sixteen years. In 1997 they selected Midland as their home-town. Bill made many friends and was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, his wife Velva and a son Steven. He is survived by a son, Allen and wife Fran of McCall, Idaho; a daughter Marlene and husband Bruce of Yuma, Arizona; four granddaughters and nine great grandchildren; and brothers, Jack and Carl. Bill is also survived by his wife Doris of the home; two step sons, Kelly Barnes and wife Susan of Conroe, Texas, Roger Barnes and wife Connie of Midland; step daughter Betty Barnes of Midland; three step granddaughters and three step great grandchildren.In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Midland, PO Box 2621, Midland, Texas 79701 or the building fund at Grace Lutheran Church, 3000 W.
