Betty King, 84, of Midland, passed away on August 10, 2008 at the Hospice Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be held Friday, August 15, 2008 at 3pm at the Manor Park Chapel in Midland, with Rev. Maggie Pitts, officiating. She was born December 14, 1923 in Lamesa, Texas to Guy and Zitella Simpson. At age sixteen, she graduated from high school and was salutatorian of the class. She worked all through her life, acting and studying theatre, studying radio drama and performing in plays for the Midland Community Theatre. Betty worked many years for KMID Big 2 News station as a broadcaster, hosting Good Morning West Texas and the Ted Kruger Show. She was also involved in radio broadcasting for many years.Betty moved to Midland in 1950. She met and married Tom King in 1953. They enjoyed traveling. She served on several boards, including Midland Symphony, High Sky Children's Ranch and Trinity Towers, helping in the development of Manor Park. She was a member of First Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Leslie Beckmann and husband Paul of Carrollton, Texas; a granddaughter, Mica Rasche Beckmann of Carrollton, TX.In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Midland Community Theatre, 2000 W Wadley AVE, Midland, TX 79705, Permian Basin Area Foundation, 200 N.
