Betty Joyce Moss Baxter died April 23, 2016 at Midland Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on April 26, 1938 in Stamford, Texas. Her parents were Clinton and Pauline Moss who lived in Anson, Texas. Betty grew up on her family’s cotton farm and graduated from Anson High School in 1956. She married Richard Baxter in Knox City, May 18, 1957. Early 1958, she joined Richard, already deployed with the U.S. Army in Germany, where they lived until their return to Texas in 1959. She spent the majority of her life in Abilene, Texas and surrounding areas where they raised three children, Teri Baxter Vestal of Midland, Dona Baxter Satterfield of Midland, and her son Steven Mark Baxter who preceded her in death in 1994. In addition to her two daughters and son, survivors include son-in-law, Rick Vestal, and daughter-in-law, Claire Baxter. Grandchildren include Mark Baxter and wife Jacalyn of Eola, Kriston Satterfield Spencer and husband Dusty, Ryon Vestal and wife Sara, Meredith Vestal Crump and husband Justin, Rhett Vestal and wife Jessica, along with six adoring great-grandchildren, with the seventh on the way, all of Midland. She was an avid cook, reader, artist, pianist, writer, seamstress and loved to reminisce about time spent in Europe during the late 50’s. She was very engaged in current news events and what was going on in the world and loved great conversation over coffee or lunch. She lived a comfortable and joyful life, and loved that her pets were always close by. Her greatest joy was being with her family, and her happiest place to be was fishing on the dock at Brownwood Lake, whether she caught anything or not. She was a beautiful soul, inside-out. Her humor, wisdom, and calm-caring spirit will be dearly missed.Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 30th, 11:00 A.M. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson. Immediately following, family and friends will gather in the Fellowship Hall of Anson First Baptist, Betty’s home church where she played the piano as a young girl.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
