Betty Jo Mims, 79, of Stanton, died on Sunday, January 18, 2009, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Downtown Church of Christ Stanton with Van Pendergrass, officiating and grandson, Jeff Wischkaemper assisting. Interment will follow at Evergreen Stanton. Betty was born on October 1, 1929, in Salt Gap, Texas. Betty was born to Herbert H. and Ruth Deck and grew up in Concho County, where her parents were school teachers. She moved to Martin County with with her parents when she was a senior in high school and graduated from Courtney High School in 1946 where her father was superintendent of schools. Betty attended Texas Tech for a year and a half and majored in Home Economics before she married Billy Mims on February 18, 1948, in Lubbock. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1998. She and her late husband farmed in Martin County for 50 years before they retired. Mrs. Mims enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, quilting and playing Skip-Bo with her friends. She was a member of Downtown Church of Christ and a member of the Martin County Home Demonstration Club. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna and Jay Wischkaemper of Lubbock, Judy and Carl Dean of Stanton, and Jo and Alan Douglas of Midland; grandsons, Jeff and wife Katie Wischkaemper and Brett Douglas; granddaughters, Lisa Wischkaemper, Robyna Dean and Amber Douglas; one great granddaughter, Brooke.
