Betty Jo Mims, 79, of Stanton, died on Sunday, January 18, 2009, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Downtown Church of Christ Stanton with Van Pendergrass, officiating and grandson, Jeff Wischkaemper assisting. Interment will follow at Evergreen Stanton. Betty was born on October 1, 1929, in Salt Gap, Texas. Betty was born to Herbert H. and Ruth Deck and grew up in Concho County, where her parents were school teachers. She moved to Martin County with with her parents when she was a senior in high school and graduated from Courtney High School in 1946 where her father was superintendent of schools. Betty attended Texas Tech for a year and a half and majored in Home Economics before she married Billy Mims on February 18, 1948, in Lubbock. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1998. She and her late husband farmed in Martin County for 50 years before they retired. Mrs. Mims enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, quilting and playing Skip-Bo with her friends. She was a member of Downtown Church of Christ and a member of the Martin County Home Demonstration Club. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna and Jay Wischkaemper of Lubbock, Judy and Carl Dean of Stanton, and Jo and Alan Douglas of Midland; grandsons, Jeff and wife Katie Wischkaemper and Brett Douglas; granddaughters, Lisa Wischkaemper, Robyna Dean and Amber Douglas; one great granddaughter, Brooke. The family suggests memorials be made to Martin County Senior Citizens, P.O. Box 1233, Stanton, Texas 79782 or Evergreen Cemetery, P.O. Diane and Judy, your mom's memory for me is how sweet and kind she was and we all had such a beautiful childhood at Courtney days and riding the bus together and still all being friends now. I know, my brother Buster (Manny) sends his thoughts and prayers to you also. Our mom was born in 1928, what a beautful life they gave us. We'll see them again as we all know Jesus and are born-again, He only wants our hearts fully. Love you all.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom. Always a pleasure to see her when in Stanton as brought back many memories. Enjoyed visiting with her at the Old Settlers. Hold on to your memories. They will sustain you and see you thru this difficult time. Always, Phyllis

Dianna, Judy and Jo, as you go through the days, months and years to come remember that your mother was always such a graceful and beautiful lady in so many ways. She was loved by so many people as well as my family. I remember so many good things at Courtney School, the basketball games, concession stand and the fellowship everyone had in that small community. Know this for everything there is a reason and God has a plan. I love you all.
