Betty Dean, 83, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, in a Sterling City nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the First Baptist Church Chapel, Big Spring with Rev. Mark Lindsey, officiating.The family will receive friends from 5 PM to 7 PM Friday at the funeral home.Mrs. Dean was born on August 17, 1926, in Decatur, Alabama and married Robert "Bob" Dean on August 30, 1947 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He preceded her in death onJune 18, 2002.Mrs. Dean worked as a secretary for the Big Spring Independent School District and the 8720 Education Co-op for 15 years. She also volunteered for the Birth Right Pregnancy Counseling Center for at risk pregnancies. She had been a active member of First Baptist Church since the early 1950's. Betty helped organize the Triple L Club and sang in the Senior Choir.Survivors include son, Robert "Robb" M. Dean Jr. and wife, Linda of Rockwall; three daughters, Nancy Yantis and husband, Stephen of Castroville; Susie Mercer and husband, Mark of Nairobi, Kenya; and Terri Chaney and husband, Chris of Big Spring; eleven grandchildren, Joel Yantis, Justin Yantis, JenniDean, Lauren Dean, Allison Dean, Kevin Dean, Meredith Mercer, Valerie Mercer, Preston Mercer, Sterling Chaney, and Aiden Chaney; one brother, Fred Nebrig and wife, Sue of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and one sister, Ann Podlipny of Rosenburg, Texas. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Milks.Honorary pallbearers will be Preston Mercer, Kevin Dean, Sterling Chaney, Joel Yantis, Justin Yantis and Aiden Chaney.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
