Betty C. Barr, 87, of Big Spring, died Saturday, January 24, 2015 in a local assisted living facility. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of Big Spring. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 27, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.Betty was born December 6, 1927 in Callahan County, Texas and married James \Buddy\ Barr, June 3, 1947 in Big Spring. He preceded her in death, September 17, 2010.Betty was a resident of the Vincent community most of her life, She was instrumental in bringing telephone service to the community serving 37 years on the Wes-Tex Telephone Board. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Coahoma where she taught Sunday School for a number of years and served on numerous committees. She was a member of both the 1941 Study Club and Eastern Star, of Coahoma. Betty enjoyed her family and especially her grandchildren.Betty is survived by two sons, Mark Barr and wife, Stacy and Maxwell Barr and wife, Kaye all of Big Spring; three grandsons, Stewart Barr and wife, Stephanie of Frisco, Aaron Barr and wife, Sarah of Houston, and Johnathan Barr and wife, Christy of Rockwall; two granddaughters, Andrea Barr and husband, Rob Cook of Big Spring and Meridith Barr Durst and husband, Barrett of Lajitis; five great grandsons, Erik, Brandon, Nathaniel, Ethan and Caleb Barr; two great granddaughters, Lily and Mackenzie Barr; and two sisters, Patty Winters of Plainview and Elaine Carpenter of Austin.In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Jacob and Hilda (Favor) Carpenter; one brother, Edward Carpenter; and one sister, Nan Cate.The family suggests memorial donations be made to the James and Betty Barr Ag Scholarship Fund, 1001 Birdwell Lane, Big Spring, TX 79720.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
