Betty Ambrose Strawn, of Midland, passed away on October 10, 2024. Betty was born on December 5, 1937 in Brady, Texas to Cyrus and Blanche Horn. She attended Frenship schools in Wolfforth, Texas, and went on to attend Texas Tech University, graduating in 1960. She began her teaching career in Seagraves, Texas and later moved to Midland. Betty taught Home Economics at Midland Lee High School for many years until her retirement.
Betty is survived by Mark Strawn (Susan) of Tyler, Britton Strawn (Kaci) of Fort Worth, Collin Strawn (Candace) of Fort Worth, Shea Cobb (Steven) of Dallas, and Shelley Strawn (Vic), Christi Nielsen and Lance Raglin of Bellingham, Washington. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dayne Swinney of San Angelo, niece Tammy Chamberlain (John) of Lake Ivie, and nephew Jay Swinney (Martha) of Bosque Farms, New Mexico. Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Ambrose in 1985 and by husband Jim Strawn in 2008.
Betty was a talented quilter and a wonderful cook. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends and was famous for her delicious Thanksgiving dinners. She traveled the world with her late husband, Jim, and especially enjoyed cruises. When at home, she loved following Texas Tech sports, always accompanied by her little dog, Buddy.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 29 at 1:00pm at Resthaven Memorial Park, 4616 North Big Spring in Midland.
