After a life of grace and strength, Bess Bennett McLaughlin passed from this world on Sunday, September 8, 2013. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend and a faithful servant of God. Born on August 16, 1920, Bess was raised in Magnolia, Arkansas. In 1947 she married James Robert McLaughlin. They moved to Norman, Oklahoma, where Jim was a petroleum engineering student on the GI bill. Life and work took them to New Mexico, Kentucky, Kansas, and Texas, and they became the parents of two sons. After her husband’s death, Bess moved to Midland to be close to family.Bess is survived by her son Leslie G. McLaughlin and daughter-in-law Jananne of Midland and son Richard B. McLaughlin of San Antonio, three grandsons and their wives, two granddaughters, and two great-grandsons. She has been the beneficiary of capable and loving care from the good people of Yellow Rose Christian Home, Hospice of Midland, and Helen Greathouse Manor at Manor Park. Her family will be forever grateful to them. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013, at 4:00 PM at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Dallas, Texas.
