Beryl “Clyde” Barrett, 83, went peacefully to be in the presence of our Lord on Friday, November 5, 2016. He was born April 25, 1933 to Violet and Leroy Barrett on his grandfather’s farm in Loop, Pennsylvania. He graduated from high school in Dayton, Pennsylvania in 1951. He grew up working on a dairy farm and even after he was grown he helped his parents to clear land for a new farm until he moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and started working for Allis Chambers Manufacturing, before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served our country from 1955-1957, and was an officer for the Military Police. He moved to Houston, Texas. He attended the University of Houston and joined the Houston Police Department and served for 30 years before retiring in 1988. Clyde owned a nursery while he was a HPD officer and loved gardening and tending flowers.In 1976, Clyde met Carol and they were married April 8,1977. They moved to Channelview. After the death of Carol’s son, Harry Grubaugh, they moved to Midland in 2007. Clyde was a member of First Baptist Church of Midland, John Sunday School Dept.He was a staff member of Texas Good Sams for many years, and an active member for two local Good Sams travel Clubs – San Jac Wheelers and Tall Bridge Sams. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his wife and their 3 chihuahuas. He also enjoyed working in his workshop doing different projects that ranged from building folding tables to making a toy box for his granddaughter. Around Christmastime he made reindeer necklaces and gave them away to who ever wanted one. He also was an avid fisherman. He served his communities by working on the board of the civic associations in both Channelview and Midland.One of his joys was reading his Bible and studying his Sunday School lesson early in the morning before anyone was awake. Clyde wore many hats throughout his life but the most rewarding one is the crown the Lord placed upon him.He is preceded in death by his mother, father, brother Leonard, and his step son Harry. He is survived by his wife Carol Barrett, daughter Jodie Curry, son in law Michael Curry, grandsons Matthew and Michael Curry, “Paw-Paw’s Baby Girl” Carol Lyn (CC) Curry, sister in law Betty Taylor, nephew Kevin and Carol Barrett, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.Memorial service will be held in the chapel at First Baptist Church of Midland at 1 pm on Thursday, November 10, 2016.In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation to be made, in Clyde’s name, to the charity of your choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
