Bertha Ernestine Harris, 83, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, March 10, 2007, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, March 12, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with her nephew, Pastor Carl White, of New Covenant Church of Lampasas, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel.She was born on May 2, 1923, in Little Rock, Arkansas and married Bertis "Bert" Harris on December 25, 1943 in Gustine, Texas. He preceded her in death on August 14, 2000.Ernestine and her late husband came to Big Spring in 1965 from Lubbock. They owned and operated Harris Lumber and Hardware, where she has been a co-owner since 1965. She was also a homemaker and enjoyed playing bridge, and hosting showers and parties. Ernestine was actively involved for many years in the Wesley Methodist Church and had served as president of the Newcomers Association in 1966. She was a member of Family Faith Victory Church.In spite of being blind she loved to cook, bake and stay active in her home. She was a very loving, caring woman, devoted to her family, and was very strong in her faith.Survivors include, one son and daughter-in-law, Corky and Dianne Harris of Overland Park, Kansas; one daughter and son-in-law, Gay and Steve Herren of Big Spring; two grandsons, Chad Harris and wife, Misty of Wichita, Kansas; and Chase Harris of Ruidoso, New Mexico; four granddaughters, Rachel Howland and husband, Robert "Bo", Tiffany Wooten and husband, Mike all of Olathe, Kansas, Stephanie Hopper and husband, Jacoby, and Heather Rutledge and husband, Rusty all of Big Spring; and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her honorary extended family and caregivers, Anne and Harvey Davis, Manon and Nick Rajbhandari, Michelle Moreno, Megan Chandler, Diane Martinez, Adrianna Rodriguez, Charisse Felty, and Maria Torres; and longtime loving Christian friend, John Arista.She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mozell Taber, Skeet White, and Jessie Lee Beaty.The family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 400 Scurry, Big Spring, Texas 79720 or Home Hospice, 111 E. 7th, Suite A, Big Spring, Texas 79720.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
