Berry Cox, 66, of Garden City, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Coby Abney, officiating. Interment will follow at Garden City Cemetery.He was born June 1, 1947, in Big Spring, Texas and married Cheryle Bisbee June 10, 1967 in Andrews, Texas.He grew up in Andrews and graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in zoology. He then obtained his masters degree in education from Sul Ross University in Alpine. Mr. Cox taught chemistry and physics for 32 years at Monahans High School. He was a tough, but fair teacher. He was a true, old-fashioned cowboy. While he taught school, he bought cattle and leased land, building his ranching business. He loved all \critters\ but especially horses and cattle. He had race horses and enjoyed checking their status daily.Family was very important to Berry. He was a loving, generous and protective husband and father, tough and gruff, but with a smile. As Grandad (Papa), he teased, loved and taught his grandchildren and had an open wallet policy with them. He loved buying little children dessert.He was a member of First Baptist Church in Garden City.Survivors include his wife, Cheryle Cox of Garden City; two sons, B. Shawn Cox and wife, Joan Admirand of Austin and B. Tod Cox and wife, Brenda of Spring; five grandchildren, John Berry Cox, David Berry Cox, Sydney Cox, Isabel Cox and Aaron Berry Cox; and one sister, Kay Sowders of Midland.The family suggests memorials be made to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P. I have such wonderful memories of Mr. Cox (the mean old bus driver who made me share my seat).Then later my family was able to meet him. We all loved him and we are able to share our wonderful memories of Mr. Cox. We will miss him greatly.

Cheryl We were so shocked and sorry to hear about Berry. I can still see you two walking the halls in high school. You picked a good one. God be with you and the boys during this difficult time.

So sorry for your loss. Mr. Cox was a great teacher and wonderful person. My prayers go out to all of you.

Half way across the country, and the news of Berry has caught me by complete surprise. Cheryl (Mrs. Cox) I will never forget you and Mr. Cox. I remember a night, while feeding animals at the county 4H barn, when you came out and told Mr. Cox that he needed to go move bee hives. The following morning the fields were being sprayed. I went with him and worked until 2 or 3 am. I will never forget Berry Cox. When we came out of the field you were waiting and had cooked for us. Berry drove me home with a full stomach and a tired body. Of course, this was a school night and we all had to get up and go to school in only a few hours. He has made a difference and will truly be missed.

So very sorry to hear about Mr. Cox. My daughter Stephanie thought very highly of you both. I believe he played a large part in her choice if majoring in Bio/Chemistry at McMurry then going on to A&M to graduate with her Doctorate in veterinary medicine. Cheryle, Shawn, Todd,I have all of you in my prayers. Your family has always been special to me and I grieve for your loss. I have a lot of memories of each of you and of Berry. He was a great help in the later years of Charles' life.

Cheryl,Oh my goodness, I was so surprised to hear about Berry. I am so sorry for you loss. He will be missed my so many......I just loved to see both of you when you would drop by our office. My heart hurts for you and just remember God will help you through this!

Was so very sorry to hear about this. He was one of my favorite teachers in Monahans. He not only took the time to educate his students but to make sure they were on the right path. I will always appreciate the times he encourged me to aim a little higher in my studies and in my life.

Sherry and I are so sad to hear of Berry's death. He was a really fine man and will be missed by so many. We had many good times from Andrews to Wichita Falls and back to Andrews again. He was always fun to be around and I have thought of him many times....always with a laugh. Our prayers will be with the family.
