Benton GuinnRoy Benton Guinn, 84, of Midland, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 28, 2010. Benton was a member of the Midland community since 1976 and a Deacon at Crestview Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 8, 2010 at 1:30 PM at Serenity Memorial Gardens in Midland.Benton Guinn was born on December 21, 1925 in Sagerton, Texas to William and Gladys Middleton Guinn. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp who proudly served his country during World War II. Benton was the owner/operator of Penguinn Refrigeration before he retired and of Penguinn Hobbies after his so called retirement. On April 6, 1947 he married the love of his life, Grace Frances Hight, in Aspermont, Texas.Benton was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and everybody he came in contact with loved him. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anybody. He was a mean Texas Swing piano player and he was the bandleader of a renowned Texas Swing Band in the Crane area. He was also a great storyteller and he enjoyed entertaining people. He was a good Christian role model and his favorite stories in the Bible were the story of Job and the writings of the Apostle Paul.Benton was survived by his son, J.R. Guinn and his wife, Carmen of El Paso; his son, Kevin Guinn and his wife, Becky of Ephrata, WA; his son, Keith Guinn and his wife, Charlotte of Midland; his granddaughter, Lucinda Guinn of Washington DC; his granddaughter, Miranda Guinn of Austin; his grandson, Garrett Guinn of Idaho Falls, IA; his granddaughter, Leanna Guinn of Camp Big Horn, MT; his grandson, Zach Guinn of Midland; his granddaughter, Tatum Guinn of San Marcos; and numerous friends and loved ones who will all miss him dearly.Benton was preceded in death by his wife of almost 61 years, Grace Guinn, on March 31, 2008; his parents, William and Gladys Guinn; and his sister, Ramona Burks.In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made in Benton's name to the Alzheimer's Association 4400 N. Big Spring Ste. 32 Midland, TX 79705; the building fund at Crestview Baptist Church 301 N.
