Bennie Glynn Patterson, 79 of Midland, TX passed away on May 14, 2017. Bennie was born in 1938 in Dallas, TX to Liborio and Myrtle Paternostro. After moving to San Antonio, TX in 1941, when Bennie was 3, Liborio changed the family name to Patterson. His wish was for them to have a more American name.Bennie attended school in San Antonio till his senior year when he moved to Crane, TX in 1956. After graduating in 1957 he attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, TX. Graduating with a Business Degree in 1964. He then moved to Odessa, TX working for various Insurance Companies as an Insurance Adjuster, retiring with Hochheim Prairie Insurance.Throughout Bennie’s life he had many interests. He loved boating, teaching his daughter and step-children how to water ski and tube riding at Brownwood Lake. He also loved fishing, where he and Joyce spent many a Thanksgiving on Lake Amistad. He was an avid Harley Rider. He started out on a Gold Wing graduating to his beloved 1983 Dyna Wide Glide Harley Davidson, which he had custom painted black and purple. He rode many miles through New Mexico and Colorado. He also made two trips to Sturgis for the 49th and 50th gathering. In the early 90’s he became interested in Antique Cars. First buying his beloved 1953 Buick, he had it customized and had it painted his signature black and purple to match his Harley. He loved hauling his 2 black and purple motorcycles behind his Buick. He then bought the 1967 red GTO convertible telling Joyce it was for her to drive. Only thing, it was never available when she wanted to. He drove these in parades, many car tours and loved showing them off in car shows winning many- many trophies. He loved spending time with his friends in the West Texas AACA, Classic Memories, and Car Club, which he served as Vice-President for many years. A special thanks to all of his buddies for their love to Bennie.Bennie had other loves in his life, his Fur Babies, Spook and Kirby. Preceded in death were his Bassett Hounds Bassie and Sassie and his Boston Terrier Prissy. He was devoted to his Fur Babies making all his kids and grandchildren say they wish they could come back as his fur babies.Bennie met Joyce on the dance floor and they knew they were soul mates, and married in 1981. He and Joyce enjoyed many years of dancing every weekend to country music. They also loved their boating, motorcycling, fishing, camping and polishing their antique cars. Bennie is survived by: his wife Joyce; children Susie Hodges (Duffy Terry); Laura Coleman, Tammie Welch (Van). Seven grandchildren: Brittan Hodges, Christopher Welch (Rebecca Gould); Sumer Cline (Keith), Kirstine Benitez (Josh), Kelsey Coleman (Steven Ellis); Kelton Weigel; Kaytlin Welch, 2 great-grandchildren, Connor and Kade Cline.He is preceded in death by his parents Liborio (Bennie) and Myrtle Patterson, step-brother Bernard Hollowell, and step-son Toby Weigel.Pallbearers will be Gilbert Lopez, Mondo Barron, Dale Dawson, Sam Austin, Richard Hagelstein, and Sam Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers will be Brittian Hodges, Christopher Welch, Kelton Weigel, and John Buntin.Special thanks is given to Midland Memorial Hospital Staff on the 5th and 7th floor and the Hospice staff for all the love and care they gave Bennie during his last days. Also for the concern and care given to the family, during this time.Viewing will be Wednesday, May 17, 2017 with visitation from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Nalley Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Thursday May 18, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Nalley Pickle & Welch Chapel.
