Benita Orona Gonzalez, 88, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and Gigi, went home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2022, in Midland, Texas, surrounded by her loving family as she left from earth and entered heaven.
A Celebration Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with Richard Gonzalez officiating. Livestream will be available at www.npwelch.com
A daughter of late Librado and Apolonia Orona Reyna, she was born March 23, 1933, in Vernon, Texas. She married Hector R. Gonzalez Sr. on November 4, 1954, in Wichita Falls, Texas, he lovingly called her “Bena”.
Benita was a military spouse, her husband Hector served in the Air Force in Korea and she took care of the home and children. She worked at Levi Manufacturing Company as a seamstress in Lubbock, Texas. She was also a presser for various dry cleaners. She enjoyed sewing, and at times, she would hem, add a button or sew pillows, table cloths for the church or herself. One of the last things she sewed was a baby blanket for her great-grandson Tirus born last year. She also loved to cook Mexican and Puerto Rican food for her family and friends.
She later entered the ministry with her husband and family. She was a Pastor’s wife to Hector Sr. in the United Methodist Church throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, and most recently they Pastored La Gloria de Dios in Midland, Texas until her husband’s death. Benita decided in her early teens to give her life to the Lord and she never looked back. She ran her race and now is dancing in the presence of the Lord. She always put God first and gave God the glory for everything in her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents Librado and Apolonia Reyna, her husband, Rev. Hector R. Gonzalez, Sr., and sons, Rev. Hector R. Gonzalez, Jr., Victor R. Gonzalez, and her sister, Mary Rodriguez.
She is survived by son, Richard H. Gonzalez (Elizabeth), daughter, Brenda K. Hobson (Dale), son, Dan H. Gonzalez (Esther), daughters-in-law Deborah Gonzalez and Becky Gonzalez, also surviving Benita is her sister Gloria Rivas (John), brothers Abel Orona, Alex Reyna and John Reyna (Rosie) and her loving grandchildren, Cherylle, Jonathan, Mona, Tim G., John, Michael, Tim R., Talitha, Chris, Kristan, Cailen, Kendall, Dee, Aaron and Nikki, great-grandchildren, Mia, Alicia, Phoenix, Azayla, Lainey, Arian, Grayson, Tirus, Liam, baby Hinojos (2022), Kody, Kacey, Ember, Jake, Jacelynn, Jordan and Stuart, great-great-grandchild LJ, and many nieces and nephews.
