She is survived by her sister, C.J. Roberts of Humble, Texas; her children, Jim and Katie Gibson of Goessel, Kansas, Carol and Roy Darden of Spring, Texas, Benjamin and Brandi Gibson of Euless, Texas, and June Gibson of Midland; grandchildren Christi Elrod, Jacob Darden, Melissa Kemper, James Darden, Wesley Gibson, Zachary Gibson, Becca Gibson, Molly Thomas, Dalton Lacy and Madison Hicks; great-grandchildren Splendyd, Asher, Jordyn, Reagan, Olivya, Addison, Caleb, Kaidance, Jackson, Lane, Caliber, and Mason.Benita was born September 1, 1933 in Hillsboro, Texas. She was the baby of eight children growing up during the Depression. In 1951, she graduated Hillsboro High School and the next day, June 3, she married the love of her life, Tommy Gibson. They moved to Midland, and have lived there since. They owned Tommy's Supermarket until they retired.Benita was an avid bowler and was a life member in the Midland Women's Bowling Association. Over the years, she served as Director, Treasurer, and President of the association. She was awarded the Bowling Bertha Merit Award in 1987. Benita participated in more than 30 Texas Women's Bowling Association State, and more than 15 WIBC National Tournaments. She and her partner, Pat Dawson, won first place in doubles in the City Tournament in 1981. In 1982 she rolled a 679 series, which at the time, was one of the highest ever rolled by a woman at Air Park Center. She bowled over 42 years on the same team. During her active years, she was said to be a guiding light to new members of the league and helped show them the ropes. She opened her heart to many. Every friend, classmate, or college roommate brought home was welcomed with open arms. Her motto was, \the first time you visit, you're company, the next time, you're family.\ She was \my other mom\ to many of her children's friends.Benita was lovingly called \Pill\ by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the perfect example of a 'hands-on' grandmother. She could be found sitting in the floor playing dolls or cars, or at the table playing games for hours. Her love for them knew no bounds. Her positive outlook on life was refreshing and will be missed. She lived a full life and requests that anyone attending her service dress in colorful, casual clothes to celebrate the life she lived.
