Basilisa “Bessie” Estrada, 89m of Midland, Texas passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 11:15 pm after a short illness at Midland Memorial Hospital. She was born on January 9, 1933 in Goliad, Texas to Pedro and Modesta Estrada. The family moved to the Martin County area around 1939.
She became an LVN in 1954 and worked for Martin County Hospital for several years and then moved to Midland Memorial Hospital. After several more years, she moved on to work at the State of Texas Health Department until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Modesta Estrada; her sisters, Mary Ramos and Fances McCain; her seven brothers, and three nephews.
She is survived by one sister, Lupe Chronister of Pearland, TX; 23 nieces and nephews; some grand nieces and nephews; and a few great grand nieces and nephews.
Her family wishes to thank all who supported them during this time.
A graveside service was held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 2:00 pm, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Bessie was one of the best nurses I ever worked with. We worked at MMH in the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. She worked in Stanton, but we kept up with each other. I shall miss her.
