Barbara McGee Groves Barbara McGee Groves passed away on Monday, December 21, following a long illness. Born in Dallas, Texas, on September 17, 1929, to James and Velma McGee, Barbara was the firstborn of two children. Following graduation from Sunset High School, she moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University. On April 11, 1953, Barbara married her husband of 56 years, Olin "Ed" Groves. The Groves' made their way to Midland in 1956 where they raised their two sons for the next twelve years. After a six year tour of duty with Phillips Petroleum in Denver, followed by another assignment in Midland, then a three year stint in Roswell, the Groves retired and made their permanent home back in Midland. Barbara's passion was her family. A wonderful homemaker, she provided a loving and supportive environment for her husband, boys, and later, her cherished five grandchildren. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ and longtime member of Memorial Christian Church, Barbara shared her gifts in many venues, but her work over the years with the children's ministry brought her the greatest joy. Survivors include her husband Ed; son Gary Groves and his wife, Judy Roper, of Midland; son Gregg and his wife, Jill, of Midland; grandson Kyle Groves and his wife, Whitney, of Midland; granddaughter Jenna Borders and her husband, Ryan, of Austin; grandson Brian Groves and his wife, Lacy, of San Angelo; granddaughter Kelsey Groves of Austin; and granddaughter Claire Groves of Midland. She was preceded in death by her parents James D. and Velma McGee; and her brother, James W. McGee. Following a family graveside service, Memorial Christian Church will host a service of celebration and remembrance on Wednesday, December 23, at 3:00 pm, with Rev. Terry Rothermich officiating.
