Ava Jane Fuller, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, died in Midland on Tuesday, October 6, 2015. Born in Shreveport, LA, to Marshall and Ava Martin on April 9, 1932, Ava Jane graduated from Byrd High School and Centenary College in Shreveport before pursuing a career as an educator, teaching school in Mansfield, LA, and in Houston, San Angelo and Midland, TX. She served as an executive with the Girl Scouts of the Permian Basin for 19 years. The Girl Scouts allowed her to live out her call as a leader among leaders and as an advocate for women and girls. She was a lifetime member of Girl Scouts of America.An avid volunteer, Ava Jane contributed her time and many talents to Hospice Midland; with her certified therapy dog, Dezi. She was a charter member of Pet Peace of Mind and Cooking for Others. At Hospice she provided respite care, chronicled life histories, led workshops and gave support to grieving family members. Ava Jane was also an active member of numerous community organizations, including the Contemporary Study Club, Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, Walkie Talkies and Christ Church Midland, where she was a Stephen Minister. Ava Jane’s motto was “leave a place better than you found it.”In addition to her career outside the home, Ava Jane raised two daughters, Diana Withen of Wise, VA (Patrick), and Kaki Friskics-Warren of Nashville, TN (Bill), both of whom survive her. Scott Fuller of Houston, TX (Melissa) and Rand Fuller of Boerne, TX (Karen) became like her own children to her. She was loved by her grandchildren Khalial, Damian, Marshall, Kevin, Katie, Rachel, Ryan, Christopher and Nicholas; and by nieces Debbie and Amy and nephews Leigh and Robert. Ava Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Fuller. She is also survived by a brother, Marshall Jr. of Shreveport, LA (Mary).Services in celebration of her life will be held Saturday, October 10 at 10:30 am at Christ Church Midland.
