Art Blassingame was born September 22, 1922, in Fannin County, Texas. He died December 19, 2012, at Lamun-LuskSanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring, Texas.Art served in the United States Air Force for four years in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. He farmed in Howard and Martin Counties after the end of the war. Later, Art worked at Pollard Chevrolet for 25 years and made many life-long friends in the community. Art was a true Texas outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting anything with feathers or fur. From his lease on the Spade Ranch to the stock tank at the farm, Art welcomed his friends and family to hunt with him. Art also loved to fish for crappie and catfish and spent a good deal of time at his cabin on Lake Colorado City.Art had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to play practical jokes with his friends and family. He especially enjoyed drinking coffee with the girls at Sherry Wegners insurance office. Art was also elected Mayor of Luther, Texas by a 3 to 0 margin. Art is survived by one brother, Robert Wayne Blassingame and wife, Lil of Big Spring, TX; and three sisters, Marjorie Larson of Memphis, TN, Betty Driver of Big Spring, TX and Bobbie Webb of San Angelo, TX. He also had eleven nephews and nieces who were very special to him.He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Vivian Blassingame, Sr. (Dutch), and Daisy Bell Blassingame; and two brothers, W.C. Blassingame and Joe Blassingame.The family will host a memorial service in honor of Art at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Rosewood Chapel Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
