Arland Galin Gilbert

Arland Galin Gilbert, age 70, of Big Spring passed away at home March 24, 2023. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm, Friday, March 31, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am, Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Nalley Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with interment at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

He was born October 13, 1952 in Big Spring, Texas to parents Garland Gilbert and Charlotte (Heffington) Gilbert. He spent most of his childhood in Brownfield, Texas. He worked a variety of jobs, including: oilfield, farming, and drilling water wells. Galin had a big heart but didn’t always know how to show it. He grew up hard and rough and lived hard and rough. He was raised to value an honest day’s work.

He was an excellent story teller even though you never could quite tell if they were true. He also loved pulling practical jokes on people. He will be missed.

He is survived by: sister, Bonnie Kinard of Merkel; daughter, Amy Gilbert of Big Spring; son, Kevin Gilbert and wife, Debbie Gilbert of Colorado City; granddaughter, Keveen Arguello and husband Chris of Colorado City; granddaughter, Rikki Roberts and husband Casey, of Colorado City; granddaughter, Kali Gilbert of Colorado City; grandson, Jalin Gilbert and wife Mara, of Big Spring; granddaughter, Brianna Gilbert of Big Spring; and grandson, Gavin Carpenter of Big Spring. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: mother, Charlotte Gilbert; father, Garland Gilbert; sister, Irene Sinsel; sister, Clara Ritchey; brother, James “Jimmy” Gilbert; brother, Alvin Gilbert; infant brother, Grady Gilbert; and daughter, Sheila Gilbert.
