Retired Law Enforcement Officer, Antonio “Tony” P. Chavez, 80, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2022 in Arlington, Texas. He was a resident of Big Spring, Texas, for 40 plus years. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from 9:00 am until 2:00 p.m. at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm.

Tony was born on April 22, 1942 in Alamogordo, New Mexico and had 15 siblings. He was the son of Dario P. Chavez and Isabel Chavez. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Chavez, his children, Madonna Chavez, Netasha Bazan, Leanne Garcia, Shannon Korell, Kevin Korell, Eluteria Chavez, Tony Chavez, Jr., and Eddie Chavez; his many grandchildren to include Carisa Chavez Horvatich and Jordan Bazan.

Tony was a retired Sheriff’s Deputy of Howard County Sherrif’s office. He proudly served during his years in law enforcement for 37 years. He served as police office at Alamogordo New Mexico Police Department, Grants New Mexico Police Department, Lamesa Texas Police Department, Slaton Texas Police Department, Big Spring, Texas Police Department and as a Deputy at Howard County Police Department, also having served as an Investigator at Big Spring Texas Police Department and Howard County Sheriff’s Office.

Tony enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He always spoke proudly of his years as a police officer and had many stories he shared. Tony had a charming and charismatic persona and was loved by all. He loved helping people and serving as a police officer. Tony sincerely loved people and they were drawn to his personality.
