The Lord took Anne Shaffer Bowen back to Him on Monday, July 13, 2015.Anne was born to Paul and Thelma Shaffer in Odessa, Texas on May 24, 1952. After graduating from Permian High School in 1970 she entered Texas Christian University, receiving a Bachelor in Science (Biology) in 1974. She then received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania in 1975 and a Masters of Health Administration from Georgia State University in 1981.Anne Shaffer Bowen began her professional healthcare career as a critical care nurse at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. Upon receiving her Masters degree she became an Assistant Administrator at Goddard Memorial Hospital in Stoughton, Massachusetts. In 1982 she was hired to be the Vice President of Ancillary Services at Memorial Hospital in York, Pennsylvania. At that time, she was the youngest female vice president of a hospital in the nation. In 1992 she was recruited from York to be the Vice President of Ancillary services for Memorial Hospital in Midland, Texas. She completed her professional career as Executive Director of Memorial’s Rehabilitation Hospital in Midland.In May of 1983 she married Peter Newell Bowen and became the beloved step-mother to his three sons, Christopher, Geoffrey and Andrew.Mrs. Bowen leaves behind her sisters, Paula Wright and Linda Stewart, both of Odessa, Texas; 3 sons, 3 daughters-in-law (Janet, Renee and Karrie) and 7 grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her husband, Peter Bowen, brother, Paul Shaffer and her parents.Anne Shaffer Bowen was a member of Christ Church Midland, a fellow in the American College of healthcare Executives and listed in Who’s Who of American Executives. Always ready to volunteer her services, she was active in numerous organizations through her career. In addition to being a Fellow in the ACHE, she was the past President of the Georgia State Healthcare Alumni Board, a member of Sigma Theta Tau (the national honor society for nurses) and a member of the Daughters-of-the-King. She also served on the Midland-Odessa Health and Retirement Board, The ACHE Regents Advisory Council for West Texas and was a past-President of the Permian Basin Texas Christian University Alumni Board. She possessed an excellent singing voice and in 2001 was recognized by Georgia State University with their Outstanding Healthcare Alumni Award.There will be a Memorial Service for Anne Shaffer Bowen at Christ Church Midland on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 1:30 PM.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Midland, PO Box 2621, Midland, TX, 79702.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
