Amy Lynn Azarov (43) passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 26th at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Midland, TX. Those who are able to attend the service are asked to wear bright colors in honor of Amy.
Amy was born on August 30, 1981 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Harriet and Gregory Canino and sister of Michael Canino. Amy spent her early years in Louisiana and then the family relocated to Strongsville, Ohio where she spent the majority of her childhood and adolescence. She attended college at Kent State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Amy was a nurse at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital in Akron, Ohio where she met her husband, Dr. Nikolay Azarov and where her daughter Natalie Larisa was born. Shortly after Natalie’s birth, the family moved to Pittsburgh, PA where Alexander Gregory was born in 2007. Amy worked at UPMC Presbyterian during her time in Pittsburgh. The Azarov family relocated to Midland, TX in 2009. Amy worked as a nurse at Midland Memorial Hospital. Victoria Nicole was born in Odessa at Medical Center Hospital in 2010. Collin Michael was also born in Odessa and completed the Azarov family in 2017.
Amy loved her family and her dogs. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her four children. Amy had a very close relationship with her mother, Harriet, who was her greatest supporter. Amy was a friend to many, always offering a kind word and a helping hand. Amy served her community by volunteering with numerous organizations. She was a very active volunteer for the MHS volleyball booster club. Amy was on the Board of the Midland Symphony Guild. In her role as a Board member, she worked closely with the West Texas Symphony. She was honored with the Arts Volunteer of the Year Award as well as a Distinguished Volunteer Award by the Arts Council of Midland in 2022. She was present at every moment for her children and never missed any sports event, school assembly, or program that her children participated in if it was under her control. Amy was kind, generous, and adored by everyone. She was a true servant of God and gave without expecting to receive.
Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer in June of 2018. After chemotherapy, radiation, and several surgeries she went into remission. At that point in her life, she decided to pursue happiness. She traveled, hunted for designer bags and shoes, learned mahjong, went to Celtics games and concerts, played with her dogs, went to Disney World, and spent quality time with family and friends. She loved a good long lunch, sushi, and a glass of wine. In 2022, there was a re-occurrence of cancer. Amy entered into a clinical trial at MD Anderson that was able to suppress the cancer cells for over two years. The medicine recently began to fail. The cancer was aggressive and her decline was swift but she fought until the very end.
Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Nikolay Azarov, her four children; daughter Natalie Azarov, son Alexander Azarov, daughter Victoria Azarov, and son Collin Azarov; her parents, Harriet and Gregory Canino of Boerne, TX; and her brother Michael Canino and his wife Kayla, and their two children Joseph and Keaton of Grayslake, IL.
