Alvie Harrison, 89, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, June 19, 2007, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 22, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Dr. Randy Cotton, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will recieve friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.Alvie was born on August 19, 1917, in Fleetwood, Oklahoma and came to Big Spring in 1935 from Terral, Oklahoma. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Alvie worked for the City of Big Spring for thirty-four years, thirty-three of those with the fire department. He served as the Fire Chief for the last six years until retiring in 1980. He had also worked for Neals Transfer and Storage for 27 years at the same time he worked in the fire department. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He married Dollie Jones on May 27, 1940 in Corpus Christi, Texas and she preceded him in death on March 15, 1992. He then married Willie Mae Brunson on January 16, 1993 in Big Spring.Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Harrison of Big Spring; a son and daughter-in-law, Rayford and Janie Harrison of Big Spring; a step daughter and husband, Sue and Eddie Lamb of Big Spring; seven grandchildren, Phillip Harrison of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Melissa Vernon of Jamestown, Indiana, Lila King, Wesley Harrison, and Sarah Little all of Midland, Heath Harrison of Rexburg, Idaho, and Micah Harrison of Brownsburg, Indiana; seven great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; eleven step great grandchildren; one step great great grandchild; one brother, Wayne Harrison of Orange; one sister, Garnett Johnson of Comanche; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was also preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters. The family suggests memorials be made to Home Hospice, 111 E. 7th St., Suite A, Big Spring, Texas 79720.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
