Alton Turner, 85, formerly of Stanton, died on Wednesday, October 10, 2001 in a Bellville nursing home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, October 12, 2001 at Downtown Church Of Christ with Deral McWhorter, minister of Cedar Ridge Church of Christ in Gatesville, officiating. Assisting will be Ellmore Johnson, retired Church of Christ minister of Lubbock and Van Pendergrass, minister of Downtown Church Of Christ. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Alton was born on April 23, 1916 in Stanton, Texas and married Imogene Morgan on December 29, 1934 in Midland, Texas. He was a life long resident of Stanton and owned and operated grocery stores in Stanton for over 30 years. He was a member of Downtown Church of Christ where he served as a deacon. After retiring he was active in the church and was also an active member of the Martin County Senior Citizens, the Old Sorehead Band and other community activities. Survivors include his wife, Imogene Turner of Houston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Wesley Williams of Houston, Debbie and Mark Locke of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Shannah Frambes and her husband, Brian, of Bronxville, New York, Michelle Friede and her husband, Cliff, of Katy, and Eric Williams, Mark Alan Locke and Jeffrey Locke all of San Antonio; four great-grandchildren, Elissa Friede, Cole Frambes, Libby Frambes and Alison Frambes; two brothers, Jack Turner of Odessa and Willard Turner of Monahans; and one sister, Corene Rives of Odessa. He was preceded in death by one son, Alton Randall Turner; his parents, Carter and Cora Turner; three sisters, Jessie Widner, Ople Hopson, Lula Black; and two brothers, Leo Turner and O. C. Turner.
