Allis Wilburly "Wib" Reid, 87, of Stanton, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2004, in Hospice House of Odessa, Texas. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 15, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church of Stanton with Rev. Gene Weinette, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton. He was born on October 24, 1916, in Rule, Haskell County, Texas. He moved with his parents and family, the late W.P. and Lillian Reid to the Valley View Community of Martin County in 1924. He grew up there and graduated from Stanton High School in 1935. He worked in the copper mines in Arizona until 1938, then he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He was stationed at Point Reyes in San Francisco, during World War II. His ship patroled along the Pacific and Alaskan Coast line. He retired from the service in 1946 after serving 8 years. He was a Machinist Mate 1stClass. He married Margaret Albiez in 1943 in San Francisco. They were parents of three children: Sharon Jean,Preston Edward and Kristen Brice. After retirement from the Coast Guard they lived in Inveness and later Yuba City, California. He was a skilled cabinet maker and proficient in many trades. He worked as maintenence engineer for the Marin County Catholic School for 18 years. his wife died in 1992 ending 49 years of marriage. He moved back to Stanton in 1997. He was a member of the Senior Citizens Group and always enjoyed participating in the Old Sorehead Trade Days, earning the nick name "Ice Man" as he assisted the senior citizens in the food booth.He is Survived by one daughter, Kristin Brice Reid of Santa Cruz, California; two brothers, Stanley Reid of Stanton, Jack Reid of Peyton, Colorado; one sister, Elenia Haynes of Rogers, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his daughter, Sharon; his brothers, Aubrey Reid, and Willie Joe Reid and one sister, Evelyn Haynes.
