Alfred Tidwell, 82, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, May 28, 2005 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Donita Lea, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Coahoma, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.He was born on December 22, 1923, in Roswell, Texas and married LaVonna Marie Anderson on April 15, 1944 in Millinston, Tennessee. Mr. Tidwell had been a resident of Howard County since 1941. He joined the United States Navy in November of 1942 and was discharged in November of 1945. He owned and operated a preventative maintenance service company until 1994. Alfred had never retired, just changed jobs most of which involved helping others, which was his passion. If he had hobbies, they involved working, helping others, fishing and enjoying life.His family was very special, especially the grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Babbs, his best friend. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Coahoma. Alfred was a very active member of Staked Plains Lodge #598, A.F. & A.M., and a member of the Suez Shrine Temple, Big Spring Chapter No. 178, R.A.M., Big Spring Council No. 117, R. & S. M., Big Spring Commandery No. 31 Knights Templar and Big Spring Chapter #67, Order of the Eastern Star. He was also active in Rainbows and the Big Spring Senior Citizens Center and had been a leader of the Boy Scout Program at Wesley United Methodist Church.Survivors include his wife, LaVonna "Bonnie" Tidwell of Big Spring; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Dorothy Tidwell and Johnny and Darlene Tidwell all of Big Spring; two daughters and one son-in-law, Tanya Jane Price of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and Sheila Ann and Albert LaRochelle of Townsend, Vermont; and one brother, Fred Tidwell of Bakersfield, California.He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, three brothers, three sisters and one son-in-law.
